When was the last time you had a fun day hula hooping in the park while helping change the lives of thousands of Houstonians? Been a while? Never? Then, come join a group of supporters and friends of Easter Seals, including John Eagle Honda, who decided to help address the problem of almost $1 million in budget cuts while there is an increased need for help for people with disabilities. Wear your world record-breaking best for the cameras and BYOH (bring your own hula!) to this family friendly free event which will celebrate the diversity and strength of our community while raising awareness and funds for Easter Seals. Because we serve people with disabilities, Guinness has agreed that we can spin the hula hoop on any part of the body to qualify – everyone is welcome and can participate!
There are so many great organizations doing great work in our community. Here is one example of why I hope you will consider supporting Easter Seals Houston. At my first general staff meeting, I saw several teary-eyed women. When I asked about it, I was told Greta, Easter Seals’ physical therapist extraordinaire, saw a young man who she had provided therapy for many years earlier. His parents were told at the time to institutionalize him – he would never walk or go to school. His parents, Greta and Easter Seals did not buy it and got down to work. 15 years later, he was a freshman at U of H, pre-law, in the choir and had his own lawn business to help pay for school.
So, what may just feel like a fun day in fabulous Discovery Green will truly support our community. You may never the children who are helped or fully understand the impact of your gift, but rest assured, today, tomorrow and for years to come, you will be part of changing lives like this young man’s for the better. So….come on-on August 28th, you can hula to help and hula for hope. Want to get Started? Check it Out here! Thank you, Houston!
